Saturdays are made for playing music! From May through September, at the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village in Mint Hill, North Carolina musicians gather at the Farmer's Market for a "Gentle Jam" featuring Old Time tunes (

Starting around 10:30, and playing till Noon (or later if we're having too much fun!), one can find fiddles, banjos, guitars, and other acoustic instruments playing the Old Time instrumental dance tunes that have stood the test of time.

We draw from the tunes played at the Charlotte Folk Society monthly Slow Jam (, the All in One Jam books from Mary Gordon and Hilary Durlam; plus other tunes that may get thrown into the mix on a whim.

Mid-May through September we'll meet every Saturday under the Gazebo/Bandstand located behind the Ashcroft One Room Schoolhouse in the center of the site. It is advised to have your favorite jam chair in your trunk in case there aren't enough chairs to go around!

During the cooler months from October to April, the Mint Hill Farmer's Market shuts down, but that doesn't stop the music! The jam drops down to once a month on the third Saturday, and meets either under the Gazebo or inside the Ashcroft One Room Schoolhouse building if the weather warrants.

The Mint Hill Old Time "Gentle" Jam is sponsored by the Charlotte Folk Society ( in Charlotte, North Carolina and the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village. Generally we meet in Mint Hill on the third Saturday of each month.

Note: In keeping with the historical and compact nature of the museum property, this setting is not ideal for pets, amplified instruments, or unattended children.

The music, mp3s, and midis are all available on the Charlotte Folk Society Slow Jam website, and we would love to have you stop in.

We meet at the Carl J. McEwen Historical Village ( located in downtown Mint Hill NC.

Drop in and join us!
