*** Note: Due to Greg Canda's travel schedule, FolkNite is often held on the 3rd Sunday instead of the 2nd Sunday (this will be the case for January 2011). So always call first before attending this jam. ***

Starting in June 2009 will be the return of the Peninsula Art Academy FolkNite, an open jam for acoustic music, particularly focusing on singing. This event will take place on the second Sunday of every month, year-round.

From 7 to 10 p.m. at the Peninsula Art Academy (1600 West Mill Street in Peninsula, Ohio), come and share and learn songs from various acoustic genres.

We'll together journey from traditional folk and old-time music to the music of Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, John Denver, and Allison Krauss to possibly even some brand-new originals.

Bring your unplugged guitars, banjos, mandolins, harmonicas, whatever – and especially voices!

The purpose is to teach each other and be surprised by the collaboration of creativity. It's a great opportunity to learn some new tunes for beginners and "experts" looking for new (or old) styles and licks.

The evening is hosted by Greg Canda, who uses a computer with projector to help us all with some of the lyrics and chords. If you have something to share you can bring it on a USB drive. This is the best way for us to share each other's original, obscure, or even well known songs.

But the real music will come from all of us - come and join the fun!
