In the world of traditional acoustic music in the big city, the Ponkiesburg Pickin' Party is one of the longest running weekly jams. It was founded way back in October 2000 by Barbara Brousal, a Brooklyn native and wonderful songwriter/singer/guitarist/mandolinist. It was Barbara's idea for a few close friends to get together on Sundays and sit around and play traditional songs, with an emphasis on fun sing-a-long tunes that everyone can enjoy, regardless of skill level. After looking around the neighborhood and inquiring at some local taverns, she came up short.
The Mannions Old Time Jam takes place on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Mannions Pub in Somerville, New Jersey. This jam is mostly a Southern Old Time Jam and we welcome players of all ages and abilities. We usually play fiddle tunes but ocasionally there is some singing, depending on the participants. The Jam starts at 7:30 and usually runs till 10:30 or 11:00.
We welcome players of all ages and abilities. Anyone is welcome to lead a tune.
We often get there early and have dinner in the pub.
