Welcome to the Kansas City Irish Traditional Music Seisiúns group.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, this group is for those who play Irish Traditional Music, and those who love to listen to Irish Traditional Music (ITM). The main Irish/Celtic session in the Kansas City area is starts around 3pm on Saturdays at Conroy's Public House (5285 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66207). We have a session every Saturday afternoon, and the third Sunday at the Irish Center from 1 to 4pm. About 1/2 hour from KC there is also a session starting around 5:30pm on Sundays in Lawrence, Kansas at Henry's (11 E 8th St., Lawrence, Kansas 66044-2713).
The focus of our session is Irish traditional music (which includes traditional music from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Galicia, and music of the Irish diaspora in Canada: Cape Breton, Newfoundland, etc.). Traditional songs are welcome at these sessions (Sean Nós and accompanied) but actually occur only now and then.
Instruments at a session can include fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes, border pipes, tin whistle, accordion, mandolin, mando-bass, Irish bouzouki, cittern, tenor banjo, anglo concertina, bodhrán, bones, and guitar.
We have from eight to fifteen players (depending on the week, and time of year). It is always a very friendly group of musicians.
If you are a seasoned ITM player yourself and looking for a great session, come play some tumes with us!
If you are new to Irish Traditional Music (ITM), and interested in playing, then check out our list of tunes in the group's file folder. If you decide to attend a session, please take a look at the information and guidelines sheet in the group's file folder.
Whether you play Irish Traditional Music or just like to listen, we hope to see you soon!
