Next session: August 18th (after that, October - no session in September)
How quickly a month passes. We'll be gathering again this Saturday, August 18th at the Parkside Coffee shop for another morning of music. I hope to see many of you there. Especially the new member from California (kenhilliard). We'll finish out with Off to California in your honor if you make it. :) I'll be hauling in a new instrument on Saturday as well. I bought an octave viola. This is a 16" viola that is a little thicker and is tuned down an octave into the cello range. It just arrived today, so Saturday will be its first time out. What time does this start? Do you have an address? Finally is this open to anyone to sing or does one need to be scheduled?
Thank you

Dan,
We meet on the third Saturday of the month at 10am at the Parkside (not Parkville) Coffee Shop. This is in Lenexa. It is on Lackman road about a block south of 87th Street. The Parkside Coffee Shop is in the back of the Cedar Ridge Church, right next to So-ko-par trails park (hence Parkside...)
The session is primarily old time, contra dance, Irish/Celtic and more broadly what can be called 'fiddle tunes', although any acoustic instrument is welcome. For the most part we play ensemble style with the full group playing the tune several times through together, but we do at times get into a break passing mood. That's especially true when a Bluegrass, Country or Gospel tune is called out. There is no stage and no need to schedule time, but there are also no individual performances except when Shawn kicks off Red Haired Boy at too fast a tempo for anybody else to play it.
The exact address is in the events section of the group on folkjam.

It's the caffeine... I don't rush tunes nearly so badly when we play at the turkey leg buffet.
